Thank you to everyone who sent supportive emails after my last post. Just a quick update. Still have not been seen and my GP went on maternity leave. Her covering doctor rang me this morning to ask me why they had sent the ultrasound request back to him. Needless to say I was like WHAAA??? Yep, turns out the request that was supposed to be on Mullingar's waiting list was returned to the GP. Good God.
He was great though and is going to refer me personally to the breast surgeon in Port Laoise. So I am supposed to hear from them directly this week.
Symptoms still there, but other than occasional bleeding, nothing getting worse. Am trying not to think about it and just get on with things. Statistics are on my side!
On another note - I have a brain cyst, probably been there since I was born, but needs to be checked by MRI every few years. Had my first Irish MRI last week and have to say I was quite impressed. Very sophisticated. Three month wait though... but ah sure! ;-)

Hope all goes well with Surgeon in Portlaoise and on the positive side probably no better time to get breast treatment there - they'll no doubt be thorough, very thorough! Best of Irish

Glad to hear you're making some progress in getting an ultrasound and to see breast surgeon, its all so painfully bloody slow though.
We're now waiting for appointment for a MRI for the 2 year old, I'm hoping that doesn't take 3 months too.
Best of luck, hope you hear before the weeks out and your mind's put at ease.

That is really awful. Harass them, keep ringing, and don’t let them put you off. Hope it all works out ok.

I have been anticipating this update anxiously. Didn't post a comment on original post mainly because it was hard to find anything to say.
The health system is desperate. Have been waiting for 2 separate consultant appointments for over 5 months now.
I really hope you get to meet a specialist soon and that the scare will end up being just a scare.
Fingers crossed for you!

Baby steps.
I heard about an overseas health system recently who have a wonderful idea. The patient pays their doctor when they are healthy! Sounds crazy, but if you are sick and the doctor stops getting paid, you can guarantee they will take rapid and effective care of you!! Can't remember for the life of me what country it was though. Yes I'm useless.

Hi, I found your blog by random chance and thought I should say:
I had a very similar experience last year / the previous year. I first experienced symptoms in August 06, and it took several months and it was initially assumed to be a hormone imbalance. When this turned out not to be the case, I received a letter saying I needed no further treatment; although at that stage I was changing my clothes as often as twice a day because I was bleeding so heavily. There were many tearful episodes before I was finally referred for an ultrasound (on a non urgent basis, because there was no palpable lump) but when I finally did have one in January 07 there was as little as a two week delay before I had my surgery to remove the lump they found there. The good side of this story is how quickly they removed it, but the attemoted fobbing off, waiting around and sheer chance-ness of it all is shocking, and could have had a very sad ending.
Imagine my delight when Harney was voted back in in May...
At any rate, if you need some advice or anything from someone in a similar position, feel free to get in touch.
